We have organized a project focusing on identifying the HIV/TB case burden by administering a comprehensive survey, where we encountered someHIV patients. We have begun to address the problem through educational programming. In the initial process of our interviews with patients, it became clear that low-income workers and housewives had poor nutritional diets. We also found that if patients were also HIV positive, they mostly took their treatments when they had access. With the understanding that education was needed around nutrition, we created and distributed pamphlets and flip charts in Telugu that promoted how to eat healthy local foods on a low budget. We also created educational materials that emphasized the importance of following medical treatment schedules. We created similar materials to promote tuberculosis awareness, prevention, and treatment options. Using these resources, clinicians, counselors and staff at the Church of Christ (COC) and Social Service Organization (SSO) as well as other medical sites were able to educate patients with uniform information.
